Where is the Tribune Hotel, Rome?

The Tribune Hotel, Rome, is conveniently located in central Rome near the top of the beautiful and renowned Via Veneto. It is right next to the Villa Borghese park. Upon arriving in Rome we walked to the hotel from Rome Termini station, only a 25-minute walk through beautiful streets with something to see on every corner, wall and turn! It’s part of the Hyatt hotel group but didnt feel like a chain, much more boutique hotel vibes.

Arrival at The Tribune

Upon arrival at the hotel, we were met with a warm welcome and an interesting lobby with striking yellow seats, side tables, statement decor, ornaments and bookcases. 

We were in room 101, which was up a single flight of spiral stairs. We loved the large hanging pendant lampshades that hung down the spiral staircase on all levels of the hotel. There was a cute seating area at the bottom and a nice fragrance.

The decor felt very Italian with lots of black, purple and yellow as a palette and interesting black and white photographic artwork on the walls. Antique items like the old till pictured above were dotted about giving a boutique hotel feel.

What’s in a family room at the Tribune Hotel, Rome? (part of JDV, by Hyatt)

The family room was smaller than we are used to in hotels, but we appreciated that this was central Rome so it was unlikely to be as large as the resorts we stayed at recently in Malta or Portugal.

Was there a bath in the room?

The bathroom was small with a shower (no bath), sink, toilet and a bidet. Soap and amenities like a shower cap and cotton wool were included and the shower gel, shampoo and conditioner were a nice scent.

There was a bidet (or a sink for short people as my little one first thought it was, having never seen a bidet before!!) The shower was powerful and had both rainfall and a standard movable showerhead.

In the room there was a wardrobe with hanging space and drawers for our travel essentials, a hairdryer and safe and lights came on when the doors opened which was a nice touch. 

We used the tea and coffee making facilities in the room, but avoided the mini-bar, as there’s a Tiger supermarket about 5 minutes’ walk away, so stocked up on snacks and drinks for the room there each day. But we enjoyed the two complimentary bottles of water and a bottle of delicious red wine they supplied.

All the water in Rome is safe to drink, so you don’t need to buy lots of bottled water, which is great. Top tip – take your water bottles out with you and refill them with the water fountains (Nasoni) that are located around the city. They are free flowing and come from the mountains so lovely and clean.

What was the bed situation for family rooms at the Tribune Hotel, Rome?

The main bed was large and comfy with good pillows and the small sofa bed (pictured above) pulled out into two separate beds which was so handy as it meant the kids didn’t have to share – always a source of issues! We called down to reception and they made up the kids beds when we left the room for dinner. If you are arriving late or not planning to go out for the evening, then perhaps email and ask for the bed(s) to be made up before you arrive.

There was air conditioning in the room, which we needed at night as it got quite warm. The window opened inwards slightly to let in fresh air, which was welcomed when the occasional smell of sewage would creep into the room from the bathroom. I know this is a common issue in European cities; it was a little unpleasant, but it went once the window was opened or the air con was cranked up a notch.

The only other issue we had with the room was the lock area on the door. The door had, at some point, been rammed and the wood had been damaged around the lock so the door didn’t feel 100% secure when locked. We called reception and they took a photo, tested that the door was secure when safe and confirmed they would fix it. We were very happy with the great staff and attention to detail throughout our stay.

What is the breakfast like at the Tribue Hotel, Rome?

We booked bed and breakfast which was served in the lounge on the ground floor each morning – it was a shame that it wasn’t on the roof terrace but it was otherwise very pleasant.

There was a good quality coffee machine with real milk, as well as a jug of filter coffee, juices, water, milk and teas.

Fresh fruits, yogurts, local cream cakes (a delight) a whole table of cakes and pastries including gluten-free options.

There was a selection of hot options, bacon, (very well done!) sausages, beans, mushrooms, scrambled eggs, rice and pancakes and waffles and the largest Nutella dispenser I’ve ever seen (kids loved it!). Oh and a real honeycomb…amazing. 

What’s the rooftop terrace bar like?

We visited the roof terrace one evening for a drink (in the interests of conducting a thorough review!) and it was a nice addition.

The seats were stylish and comfy and the bar was well stocked. It was however, not cheap! We had one small local beer, a water and a Hugo spritz and it came to €36 euro! The waiters were attentive but the view was obscured by an odd plastic curtain, which was a bit of a shame. 

Would you stay at the Tribune Hotel, Rome again?

If we were to return to that exact neighbourhood and needed a place to stay, then we wouldn’t hesitate to stay at the Tribune again. It was a nice hotel, well-maintained, reasonably priced (for a city break in Rome in the school holidays – eek!) and the staff were friendly. It was in a great position to walk everywhere from as were we keen to rack up the steps and avoid extra costs. We averaged 22k steps a day during our trip, so I’d say we achieved that goal!

We are hoping to return to Rome and will likely stay in a different area to make the most of the sights there instead, as there really is so much to take in!
