Real Home Tours: Vicky’s charming Victorian with a cosy cottage vibe
Real Home Tours: Week 6 – If you love a cosy cottage vibe you need to see Vicky’s beautiful home.
Welcome to week 6 of Real Home Tours. In week 1, we visited Sandra in her Welsh seaside sanctuary. From there, we hot-footed it to Hythe to stop in on interior designer Lisa. Week 3 was all about Lauren’s beautiful home in Essex and in week 4 we were treated to a nose round at designer Kate’s location house. Last week we popped over to Suneiah’s beautiful home in Australia and today we’re back in the UK again, visiting Vicky in Brighton.
Vicky lives in a charming end-of-terrace that feels like a quaint and cosy cottage on the inside. Vicky runs the popular Instagram account @shelley_cottage where she shares all the behind-the-scenes of her home and family life. I love Vicky’s style, she has made each room look considered and inviting and I just know you’re going to love it too…
Tell us a bit about yourself.
“My name is Vicky. I’m 35 and a content creator/full-time mum from Brighton. Before having my children I worked as a Visual Stylist for a number of homeware brands.”
Tell us a bit about your lovely home.
“Our property is a Victorian end-of-terrace. Me and my husband Tim bought our home in 2016 and have since had two little girls and turned it into a family home.”
Describe your interior style.
“My interior style is cosy, cottage style. I love lots of vintage prints and textures with pops of summer colours.”
Have you done any work to the house since moving in?
“We made the decision to knock our existing breakfast room & kitchen together to make an open-plan kitchen diner and playroom. We then converted one of our large bedrooms into a smaller bedroom and bathroom so that we could gain three bedrooms from two.”
Have you done any DIY or upcycling?
“I did the majority of the DIY and upcycling when I was heavily pregnant after we had finished the works with the help of my dad. I’m still adding to bits now and love changing the rooms as my family grows.”
What are your favourite features in your home?
“I love the big bay window in our front living room. It used to have these thick net curtains and made the room so dark but since we’ve added shutters it’s really opened up the room and it has massively improved the curb appeal. I really love some of the clever storage solutions we’ve done like the fitted wardrobes and shaker peg shelf in the bedroom.”
Are there any features that you don’t like or would like to change in the future?
“I rushed when I chose the flooring for our kitchen and the colour is too grey and cold. I wish I had gone for a warmer wood. My next project I’d like to create a cosy reading corner and build in our bookcases.”
Where do you get your interior design inspiration?
‘I tend to look at the spaces and see how I can use the space to it’s full potential. Instagram and Pinterest is a great way to get inspiration!’
Anything else you’d like to share about your home…
“We had only planned to be in our home for a few years but you never know how long you’ll be in a space so always make it feel like home.”
