Budget DIY decking glow-up – the results with B&Q

After working hard on a DIY decking upgrade and creating a stylish and secluded sanctuary in our back garden it was time for the fun bit… styling up a storm and picking the perfect garden furniture to enjoy it from.

If you’ve been following my Instagram updates you’ll know that I’ve been busy over the last few weeks working on a budget DIY decking revamp. I’m going to share all the details of the projects I’ve completed here on my blog and as always will share product links and DIY tips and tricks. So far, I’ve posted a DIY tutorial on how to create DIY slat fencing using affordable treated battens and I’m currently working on a DIY tutorial for how I built the raised planters (also covered with slat panels). Today though, I’m skipping slightly ahead and sharing the results of the revamp and all my styling tips.

I hot-footed it down to my local B&Q and checked out their brilliant range of outdoor furniture and accessories and loved what I found. So many options to suit all-sized gardens this summer.

You will need:

To recreate the look I created, you will need the following B&Q products (ad affiliate links)

Vitello corner sofa – A brand new product in this range and super comfy.

Vitello side table – such a great design as transforms into an ice bucket or planter when the lid is removed (you can probably guess which option I chose! Cheers!)

Outdoor rug – great value and zones the space

Solar string lights (I used two sets)

Wine glasses – stylish and practical as they are plastic

Terracotta pots – I loved these tall ones and they are great value

Compost (the 3 for £15 deal is really good value)

Solar wall lights (I used to packs)

Rattan-effect solar lantern – great for the table or the floor

Citronella candle – great for keeping the bugs away

Styling tips for a DIY decking revamp

To style my newly revamped decking area with comfort and aesthetics in mind, I started with the Vitello corner sofa set – £900 — its contemporary design anchors the space, offering generous seating for entertaining or relaxing. The stylish rope design is durable and resilient as it’s made from a UV and weather-resistant rope design.

To layer in colour and pattern, I mix and matched the Furn ditsy orange leaf cushions and Candlelight orange cushions (£12 each), which not only add a bold, botanical pop but also tie in beautifully with the warmth of the timber DIY raised planters and slat fencing.

The Citronella large scented candle (£7) adds ambience while helping keep summer evenings bug-free.

The Vitello side table (£40) is the perfect companion piece, offering a stylish spot to rest drinks or, even better transforms into an ice bucket (or planter) when you remove the lid — which leads me to the elegant 4-piece wine glass set (£12), ideal for outdoor soirées.

As the sun sets, solar-powered outdoor string lights (£25) drape beautifully across the space, creating a warm, twinkling canopy. I used two sets of these festoon lights, each with 40 bulbs and they create a fantastic display.

Finally, the Umatilla rattan-effect solar lantern (£19) adds a grounding element with its sculptural silhouette and soft glow, enhancing the space with a modern boho touch.

Together, these pieces create a harmonious blend of style, function, and atmosphere and I’m literally counting down to summer now!
