Back in February, I stayed at The Standard London Hotel for a work event in London, and it ended up being one of those hotels that instantly makes an impression from the moment you arrive. Now, usually I book my own hotels and spend hours and hours trawling the internet looking for deals and reading reviews and checking out pictures etc, but in this case it was booked for me and I had literally no expectations of clue what to expect.
Between the striking interiors, incredible location and beautifully designed rooms, it is definitely one of the most memorable London hotels I have stayed in recently. If, like me, you love interiors, design inspiration and stylish boutique hotels that still feel relaxed and comfortable, this place really delivers.
A hotel perfectly located near St Pancras International

It was so easy to get to due to the excellent transport links and I was pretty blown away when I opened the curtains of my room to see that I was facing the beautiful and historic St Pancras Hotel (must go there and do a review at some point!).
For anyone travelling into London for work, events, meetings or even a weekend city break, the convenience is hard to beat. You can step off the train and be checking into your hotel within minutes, which feels especially valuable after a long journey into the capital.
The location also makes it ideal if you are travelling onwards via Eurostar, with direct access to Paris and other European destinations literally across the road.
As someone who used to commute into London regularly, there was something really exciting about staying in such an iconic part of the city with views overlooking the station and surrounding London skyline.
Stylish interiors and standout design details
The moment you walk into the hotel, it is obvious this is not your average London hotel. The interiors are bold, stylish and full of personality, with a really creative atmosphere running throughout the building.
Every communal space felt beautifully designed, from the relaxed seating areas to the restaurants and hallways. I found myself constantly noticing interesting textures, lighting, colour palettes and furniture styling ideas throughout the hotel, and I took so many photos whilst I was there because it is incredibly photogenic.
The whole place manages to feel trendy and luxurious without becoming cold or intimidating, which I think is quite hard to get right.
Inside the iconic Brutalist building
One of the most interesting things about The Standard, London is that it is housed inside the former Camden Town Hall Annex, a striking 1970s Brutalist building that has been completely transformed into one of London’s most talked-about hotels.
The hotel was actually the first Standard Hotel to open in Europe, bringing the brand’s famous New York-style design aesthetic to London.
One of its most recognisable features is the famous bright red external lift climbing the outside of the building, which has become something of a London landmark in itself.
Inside my premium king room at The Standard London

I stayed in a premium king room and genuinely loved the space from the moment I walked through the door. I was expecting a small. broom cupboard being in such an iconic hotel but Amazon (who were hosting) had really splashed out.

The bed was enormous and unbelievably comfortable, exactly what you want after a long work event or busy day in London. The room itself felt spacious and thoughtfully designed, with lots of practical storage including fantastic wardrobes, hanging space and plenty of drawers, which made it feel much more functional than many city hotels.

There was also a really good desk area which was perfect for catching up on emails and work, whilst still fitting seamlessly into the room design rather than feeling corporate.
One feature I particularly loved was the huge pull-out television, which kept the sleek feel of the room whilst still giving you that luxury hotel experience when relaxing in the evening.
The minibar area was another well-designed and thoughtful detail. Everything was beautifully presented within stylish drawers and cabinetry, making the room feel elevated and carefully considered rather than generic. I avoid mini bars at all costs because they don’t fit with my bespoke on a budget approach (especially when there’s an M&S literally opposite with canned cocktails and crisps at half the price).
The views from the room were also incredible. Looking out across St Pancras and the surrounding London skyline really added to the whole city break atmosphere, especially once the evening lights came on.
The luxury bathroom and rainfall shower

The bathroom was honestly stunning and probably one of my favourite parts of the room.

The tiles were absolutely beautiful and gave the whole space a boutique spa feel. There was a huge rainfall shower, a massive bath and loads of room overall, which made it feel genuinely luxurious rather than cramped, which can sometimes happen in London hotels.
Everything felt really high end and stylish whilst still being practical and comfortable to use.
What was the breakfast like at the Standard London hotel?
OMG, it was amazing! Being honest, I needed to leave very early so didn’t think I was going to get breakfast but I popped down the minute they opened the restaurant (or perhaps a few minutes before, rather cheekily) and they were really accommodating. I grabbed a cup of tea and a sausage (the essentials!) and it was delish. The spread was fab, hot and cold options, juices and everything you’d expect of a good hotel breakfast and once again the decor and ambience didn’t disappoint either.
Restaurants and communal spaces at The Standard London
Beyond the rooms themselves, the hotel has a brilliant atmosphere throughout. The communal spaces feel lively and social without being overwhelming, and there is always a nice energy around the building.
During my stay, there was a mix of people working remotely, meeting friends for drinks, heading to events or simply relaxing in the lounges and restaurant areas. It gives the hotel a really cool, creative feel that makes it stand out from more traditional corporate London hotels.
The restaurant spaces were equally impressive, with stylish interiors and a relaxed but elevated atmosphere that fitted perfectly with the rest of the hotel design.
Would I stay at The Standard London hotel again?
Absolutely.
The Standard, London combines fantastic interiors, an unbeatable location and genuinely comfortable rooms in a way that feels stylish without trying too hard.
For me, it strikes a really good balance between luxury and practicality. It works brilliantly for work trips because of the location, but it would also be perfect for a London weekend break, especially if you enjoy interiors, design and hotels with personality. It feels memorable and oozes style.
The bar upstairs was lovely with spectacular views. I failed dismally at getting pictures as was too involved in the spicy margaritas! But here’s a selfie from the amazing toilets which come with a view of the London night skyline.
