Threadneedles Hotel London Review: A Beautiful Historic Hotel in the City

Threadneedles Hotel was on my list for a few reasons. I absolutely love Threadneedle Street in London. It’s one of my favourite streets. I was on a content trip to film lots of sites around the area and found a great deal offering a big discount on this 5-star hotel.

I love Threadneedle Street. It’s just the most beautiful mix of historic architecture, buildings, stories and old London. It has that amazing old feel, where you can just feel the history as you walk through it. Then next to it, behind it and all around you, there are these super modern skyscrapers and glass reflections. It’s kind of magical.
You’ve got the Royal Exchange, Bank station, Poultry, One New Change and St Paul’s. The whole area is just wonderful.
I managed to get a one-night stay at Threadneedles Hotel for a really good price using my Super.com subscription, which really does come up with the goods when it comes to bargain hotel stays.
I was particularly excited about seeing the dome because the dome is the shining star of this hotel.
The hotel used to be an old bank, and when you walk in, there’s a whole wall of history showing you how it looked when it was a working bank.

It’s really just an amazing place.
That was why we chose to stay there, and I really enjoyed parts of our stay.
The bedroom at Threadneedles Hotel

I’m going to be really honest and say that the hotel room we were in was a little bit dated.
It didn’t have that new, fancy or luxurious feel, but the room itself was enormous. It had really high ceilings, probably half again as high as a normal-sized room, and it was a really chunky, large room.

It was very well kitted out and had everything you would need.
It just felt a little bit dark because there were small windows, there wasn’t a view, and it was a bit old and dated. It just felt a bit tired.
The staff were so friendly when we walked in. They were really attentive, and the lady behind the desk was very helpful.

I think they had actually upgraded our room, so apparently we were in a slightly better room, but it still didn’t give me the wow factor.
I’m not complaining because there was nothing wrong with it. It just didn’t have that amazing feeling I’ve had when I’ve walked into rooms at The Dilly, Aethos Hotel or lots of the other hotels I’ve stayed at in London around that price point.
Bedroom facilities and little extras

The room had a bath and shower, which was great.
I think we were in an accessible room because it had the wall handles and bars to help people move around. We were also quite low down in the hotel, I think on the first or second floor.

It’s a shame there wasn’t a view, but I didn’t pay for a view, so I can’t complain about that.

There was a fridge with four complimentary cans in it, which was a nice touch, plus teas, coffees, hot chocolate and biscuits, all complimentary.

There were lots of drawers and storage, fresh towels, Elemis toiletries, a large bed and a classic London view on the picture behind it.
As I say, it was a large, perfectly nice room, but it just lacked the wow factor.
Breakfast at Threadneedles Hotel

We didn’t eat dinner at the hotel, but we did have breakfast the next morning, and that was really fantastic.
The room where you have breakfast is really, really beautiful. It’s got chandeliers, enormous windows, and it is fantastic.
I highly recommend having breakfast there if you can.
The food selection was great. They have a hot menu and a fantastic buffet with loads of all the bits you would want: yoghurts, fruit, seeds, coffees, juices and lots more.
It was a really good breakfast.
The staff were very attentive, and the surroundings were spectacular, with pillars, artwork, enormous ceilings, cornicing and chandeliers.
So yes, I 100% recommend having breakfast. It was fantastic, great value and really did make the stay feel more luxurious.
You walk through a lovely bar to get there, which would also be a nice place to stop for a drink.
The stunning dome and historic interiors

The lobby is stunning.
It’s got the dome, and the dome is just breathtaking. It is amazing. It’s everything I hoped it would be.
I recommend staying at this hotel just to go and sit in the lobby, look at the dome and soak up the atmosphere.
There are lots of lovely details, like the old banking-style lamps and fresh flowers. They had really made an effort.
Then there’s the gorgeous, gorgeous spiral staircase that takes you up through the building. It’s like an amazing feat of architectural genius. I just loved it.
There are shiny stone floors, beautiful architectural details and so much history.
The whole ground floor and communal areas of the hotel are stunning and really, really worth going just for that.
I also loved reading about the history of the hotel and seeing how it used to look when it was a working bank.
The location – one of my favourite parts of London
The location is just amazing.
As I mentioned earlier, Threadneedle Street is one of my favourite streets in London, and staying here puts you right in the middle of this wonderful historic part of the City.
You’ve got all that incredible old architecture alongside the modern glass skyscrapers, and there is so much to see just walking around.
For me, the location is a definite 10 out of 10.
Where we ate dinner – The Counting House
We didn’t eat dinner at Threadneedles Hotel, but we went to The Counting House, which was amazing.
It was really good value and, again, so steeped in history.
I’m going to do a separate post about our visit, but I highly recommend going to The Counting House if you stay at Threadneedles Hotel.
It’s a brilliant option for dinner nearby.
Overall verdict: Would I recommend Threadneedles Hotel?

YES!! Overall, we slept well, the bed was comfy and the staff were friendly. The breakfast was great, the surroundings were beautiful, and the décor downstairs was absolutely stunning.
The bedroom didn’t have the wow factor for me, and I do think it felt a little tired compared with some of the other London hotels I’ve stayed in at a similar price point.

But the historic interiors, the incredible dome, the beautiful communal areas and that amazing location really made the stay.
The location is 10 out of 10, and I would absolutely recommend staying here.

It’s a brilliant hotel if you love historic London architecture as much as I do, and I really enjoyed our stay.
