shark wandvac review

I’ve been meaning to write this Shark Wandvac review for ages! It’s so good, I’ve just been so busy with DIY and travelling, but today I’m determined to change that…

If you’ve followed my content for a while, you’ll know I’m a huge fan of little home upgrades that make life feel easier without costing a fortune or cluttering up your space. I’m always hunting for clever Amazon Finds and money-saving gadgets that genuinely earn their place in the home, especially products that help busy family life run a little more smoothly while still fitting into a stylish interior.

Shark Wandvac Review – is it worth it?

shark wandvac review

I’ve been testing the Shark Wandvac 2.0 handheld vacuum around the house for a while now and it has quietly become one of those products I reach for constantly. It lives on its sleek charging dock in the kitchen and gets used far more than I ever expected, mostly because it removes that annoying barrier between spotting a mess and actually dealing with it.

You know those moments where you notice kitchen crumbs everywhere after breakfast, pet hair gathering on the stairs, dust sitting on shelves just before guests arrive, or the car seats looking like absolute chaos after a family day out? Normally you either ignore it for later or end up dragging out the full vacuum cleaner for a five-minute job. The Shark Wandvac completely solves that problem.

How to use the Shark WandVac

Setting up the Shark WandVac is really simple.

  • First, assemble the charging dock by slotting the charging stand onto the base until it clicks into place
  • Then feed the charger cable neatly through the groove underneath so it can sit flat on your worktop, shelf or utility cupboard.
  • Before using it for the first time, place the WandVac onto the dock with the nozzle sitting in the cradle and allow it to charge fully, which takes around 2.5 hours.
  • Once charged, lift the hand vac off the dock and choose your attachment.
  • Use the crevice tool for tight spaces, awkward corners, sofa edges, skirting boards and car seat gaps. Use the multi-surface pet tool for pet hair, upholstery, cushions, stairs and slightly larger everyday mess.
  • If you are just tackling kitchen crumbs, small spills or quick hard-floor pick-ups, you can use the WandVac without an attachment and run the main nozzle directly over the mess.
  • To start cleaning, press the power button once, then move the nozzle slowly over the surface so the suction can pick up the debris properly.
  • When you have finished, press the power button again to switch it off.

How to empty the Shark Wandvac 2.0?

  • To empty it, hold the WandVac over the bin with the dust cup facing down, then slide the dust cup release button forward so the debris drops straight out.
  • After emptying, click the dust cup closed again and place the WandVac back on the charging dock so it is charged and ready for the next quick clean.

Note!! It took me ages to realised that you can slide the filter out and empty it really easily by pressing on the basket that holds it in place. Don’t be like me as the suction went and i thought i’d made a mistake buyig the wandvac until I realised (Mr D showed me) how easy it is to empty and clean the filter!!).

Is the Shark Wandvac heavy to hold?

Shark Wandvac

The first thing I noticed was how lightweight it feels. Shark describes it as an ultra-lightweight powerhouse and that is actually quite accurate. It feels sleek and compact in your hand rather than bulky and awkward like some older handheld vacuum cleaners I’ve tried in the past.

I also genuinely like the design, it’s sleek and fancy which means I don’t mind leaving it out on display in the kitchen so consequently it’s always charged and ready to go. If it was larger it would be hidden in a cupboard uncharged and never used.

And from an interiors point of view, that matters to me. I’m quite particular about visual clutter in the house, so if a product is going to permanently live on the worktop, it needs to look good as well as function properly.

How strong is the suction on the Shark wand vac?

What surprised me most, though, was the suction power. Usually, with smaller hand vac products you expect convenience over performance, but this thing has serious suction for something so compact. I’ve used it for everything from fine dust and old cobwebs around shelving to larger debris by the back door after decorating jobs.

It handles kitchen crumbs brilliantly, especially around hard floors where mess seems to constantly appear throughout the day. I’ve also been impressed with how well it tackles upholstery, particularly on dining chairs and fabric on sofa creases where crumbs somehow seem to wedge themselves into every seam imaginable.

It is also especially good if you have pets. Pet hair and cat hair can become such a losing battle in family homes, especially on stairs, sofas and awkward corners, but the Shark WV copes with it surprisingly well for such a compact hand vac.

Can you use it in the car?

One area where I have found myself using it constantly is in the car. I think this might now be my favourite use for it. Between receipts, snack wrappers, muddy shoes and endless crumbs, my car seats always seem to end up a mess no matter how organised I try to be. I’m not good at cleaning my car as I have that out of sight out of mind mentality so once I leave the car and come in the house I forget it even exists until the next time I get in and remember that I really need to bring a rubbish bag with me!

The duster crevice tool makes it really easy to get into tight spaces between seats and around door pockets without wrestling with a massive hose attachment. It turns what used to feel like a proper cleaning task into something you can sort out in literally a couple of minutes.

Work smarter not harder…

I also think this fits perfectly into my whole bespoke on a budget lifestyle approach because it is one of those purchases that saves time, effort and frustration every single day. I’m always talking about making your home work harder for you without spending unnecessarily, and this feels like exactly the sort of smart, money-saving gadget that actually improves everyday life rather than ending up shoved in a cupboard unused.

Now, I do want to be balanced and honest because there are a couple of things worth mentioning…

The battery life of the Shark Wandvac

By design, the minutes of runtime (40ish) are not huge, and if you are expecting this to replace your main vacuum cleaner for a full deep clean of the entire house, it probably is not the right product for that. The shorter battery life (around 40 minutes) is really designed around quick resets, small spills and everyday messes rather than marathon cleaning sessions.

This isn’t an issue for us because that is exactly how I use it. It sits permanently on the charging dock ready to grab quickly, and because it is always there and always charged, I end up using it far more than I would a larger cordless vacuum stored away in a cupboard. I find I hoover the stairs every couple of days because it’s handy and ready to go whereas before I’d see the dust and cat hair piling up every da and not quite get round to grabbing the main vac until it was catastrophically terrible!

The dust cup capacity is also fairly small, but that is the trade-off for the ultra-light design. You will need to empty debris reasonably often if you are dealing with larger debris or lots of pet hair, although the reach one-touch empty system does at least make the process quick and mess-free.

What I think Shark has done particularly well here is understanding modern family life. Not every clean needs to become a huge production. Sometimes you just want to quickly deal with crumbs under the breakfast bar, fine dust on shelves before filming content, or muddy debris from shoes near the back door. The ease of use means you actually keep on top of those little everyday messes rather than letting them build up into a bigger cleaning job later.

And realistically, that is probably why I have ended up using it so much.

Where to buy the Shark Wandvac?

It has become one of those Amazon Finds that quietly integrates itself into daily life without you really noticing at first. It is practical, compact, genuinely useful and actually stylish enough to leave out in the open, which for me is always a huge bonus. I bought mine in a brilliant deal on Amazon. I’ll link the listing below in case you fancy a nose…

If you are looking for a handheld vacuum with powerful suction that works brilliantly for kitchen crumbs, car chaos, pet hair and all those little in-between cleans that happen constantly in busy homes, I honestly think the Shark Wandvac cordless handheld vacuum WV200UK is well worth considering.
